National Library of Virtual Manipulatives

This site is a library of uniquely interactive, web-based virtual manipulatives and concept tutorials. In this project out of Utah State University, supported by the National Science Foundation, a team is developing exciting new approaches to interactive mathematics instruction. They are using computers to create virtual learning environments that engage students and help them visualize relationships and applications.

LEVELS: The site is organized by Grade level; Pre-K-2, 3-5, 6-9 and 9-12.

CONTENT: The site includes Number and Operations, Algebra, Geometry, Measurement, Data Analysis and Probability.

Da Numba
The object of the game is to clear the game field of numbered tiles. Players can clear the numbered tiles by finding combinations that add up to Da' Numba. During normal game play, the color of the tiles will not matter, just find a numbered tile that matches Da' Numba or click on several tiles which add up to Da' Numba.

Doubles Cards 2
Most suitable to extend children who are able to partition and double a 2-digit number whose digits are less than 5. Uses bead frames to demonstrate the doubles. Partition the given number, add the two doubles together and select the correct answer. If you get ten correct answers in a row you can play the Banger Racing game.

People Patterns
If you see a line of people do you think that you could discover a pattern and figure out who should come next? Could you complete the sequence before the penalty word "Pattern" is spelled out? Try the intermediate level for a challenge!


Carnival Jackpot

Ladybug Rectangles
Can you draw a rectangle with a perimeter of 16? In "Making Rectangles", students plan the steps necessary for the ladybug to draw rectangles of different sizes. The ladybug example presents a rich computer environment in which students can use their knowledge of number, measurement, and geometry to solve interesting problems. Planning and visualizing, estimating and measuring, and testing and revising are components of the ladybug activities.

Use radar to control Little Rocketman. Move the mouse over the radar unit to select the power and angle of the launch. The further the mouse is from the radar, the stronger the shot. Check your launch settings and click to launch.

Click on Math, then Math Advantage,then Grade 3 and then scroll down to find Dr. Gee's 3-D Lab. Figure out if Dr. Gee's net matches her 3-D Solid.
