Research Links | Graphic Organizer | Sample Postcard | Songs & Stories | Rubric

Third graders, ready for a fun adventure?
Pack your bags, you're going on a virtual journey around the world.
While you're away, don't forget to write home!

Step #1 Research

Your teacher will ask you to research a continent. In addition to the books and classroom resources, visit the links below to learn interesting facts about your continent. This graphic organizer will help you keep track of all the information you collect.

Think about the Five Themes of Geography as you explore;

Step # 2 Send a Postcard Home

Mrs. Martell will show you how to create a postcard in AppleWorks. You will find a photograph from your continent in World Book Encyclopedia. Then copy and paste it into an AppleWorks drawing page. In a text box you will write a message that includes information about the location, people & the environment, place, regions, and movement of your continent. Here is a sample postcard.

Use this template to help you write your postcard message. Sometimes it's hard to think of what to write. This other template will help by giving you sentence prompts.

How did you do?

Use this rubric to see if you meet all the goals.
