The Underground Railroad!

During the mid 1800s, it is estimated that 60,000 people escaped slavery on the Underground Railroad. The railroad was not made of steel and coal but rather of courageous people who helped the runaway slaves on their way to freedom. In his poem, "Runnagate, Runnagate", Robert Hayden describes this desperate journey. Read this poem and see if you can find 'the tools' escapees used to find their way north.
